In short

Mallorca has a well-developed international school sector that reflects the island's long history of attracting European families. Whether you are considering a relocation, an extended stay, or planning around school-age children, there are credible options across British, German, French, and internationally-accredited curricula. Most schools are concentrated around Palma and the southwest, with a smaller cluster in the north.

Why schooling matters for non-resident property owners

For second-home owners with school-age children, the availability of a suitable international school is often a deciding factor in how much time they spend at their property. A family that knows their children can attend a good school — even for a single academic term or a full year — will use the property very differently from one that must plan every visit around school holidays.

Several Mallorca property owners have used the island's international schools as a stepping stone to longer-term stays or eventual relocation, particularly post-pandemic when remote working and flexible schooling arrangements became more normalised.

British curriculum schools

Bellver International College

One of Mallorca's longest-established international schools, Bellver is located in Palma and follows a British curriculum from Early Years through to IGCSE and A-levels. Teaching is in English, with Spanish language taught throughout. The school is popular with British and other Anglophone families and has a strong university placement record.

  • Location: Palma (Son Rapinya area)
  • Ages: 3–18
  • Language: English (primary), Spanish
  • Curriculum: British (IGCSE, A-level)
  • Approximate annual fees: €8,000–€14,000 depending on year group

Queens College Mallorca

A day and boarding school based in Palma, offering British curriculum education with a strong international community. Queens has a boarding offering that makes it viable for families who are part-time on the island.

  • Location: Palma
  • Ages: 3–18
  • Language: English, Spanish
  • Curriculum: British (IGCSE, A-level)
  • Approximate annual fees: €9,000–€15,000 (day); boarding fees on request

Boarding availability is rare in Mallorca

Queens College is one of the very few schools in Mallorca offering boarding. For families who split time between Mallorca and a home country, a boarding option can provide continuity for children even when parents are away.

German curriculum schools

Deutsche Schule Palma de Mallorca

The German School of Palma is a state-recognised German school (Deutsche Auslandsschule) offering the full German curriculum from Kindergarten through to the German Abitur. It is the natural choice for German-speaking families and regularly attracts Swiss and Austrian families as well. The school has strong ties to Germany and its diplomas are fully recognised.

  • Location: Palma (Coll d'en Rabassa)
  • Ages: 3–18
  • Language: German (primary), Spanish and English
  • Curriculum: German (Abitur)
  • Approximate annual fees: €4,500–€8,500 (state-subsidised, fees lower than private schools)
  • Website: deutsche-schule-palma.com

German school fees are partially subsidised by the German state

Deutsche Auslandsschulen receive funding from the German federal government (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen), which keeps fees lower than equivalent private international schools. This makes it particularly attractive for German-speaking families relocating to Mallorca.

French curriculum schools

Lycée Français de Palma

The French lycée in Palma is part of the AEFE (Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Étranger) network, offering the French national curriculum from Maternelle through to the Baccalauréat. An excellent choice for French and Francophone families, and accepted by French universities.

  • Location: Palma
  • Ages: 3–18
  • Language: French (primary), Spanish
  • Curriculum: French (Baccalauréat)
  • Approximate annual fees: €3,000–€7,000 (AEFE subsidised)

International Baccalaureate (IB) schools

The Academy International School

Offering the International Baccalaureate curriculum — Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP), and IB Diploma — The Academy attracts families from across Europe and beyond who want a globally portable education. The IB Diploma is accepted by universities worldwide.

  • Location: Palma
  • Ages: 3–18
  • Language: English, Spanish
  • Curriculum: IB (PYP, MYP, Diploma)
  • Approximate annual fees: €9,000–€16,000

Montessori International College

A smaller school following the Montessori methodology alongside IB accreditation, suited to younger children and families prioritising child-led learning.

  • Location: Palma area
  • Ages: 3–14
  • Language: English, Spanish
  • Approximate annual fees: €7,000–€12,000

Schools in the north: Pollença area

For families based in the north of the island, options are more limited. The Pollença and Port de Pollença area has a number of smaller private schools catering to international children but does not have a full British or German curriculum secondary school. Families in the north typically either commute to Palma schools or opt for the local Spanish state system, which is of reasonable quality and provides strong Spanish language immersion.

Admission and practical notes

  • Most international schools have waitlists for popular year groups — particularly Year 1 (age 5–6) and Year 7 (secondary entry). Apply as early as possible.
  • Admission processes typically involve an application form, previous school reports, a language assessment, and an interview. British and IB schools conduct interviews in English; German and French schools assess in their respective languages.
  • Some schools offer mid-year or term-by-term enrolment, which can suit families planning extended stays rather than a full relocation.
  • Spanish state schools are an option for families who want full immersion — they are free and generally well-regarded, particularly at primary level. Language support (apoyo lingüístico) is available for non-Spanish speakers in many state schools.
